I Think Therefore I'm

"I think, therefore I am." These words were said by a man named René Descartes, a philosopher from France, many years ago. Simple words, but they hold something very deep inside them. He was saying, in the middle of doubting everything else in the world, one thing he could never doubt — the fact that he was thinking. And if he was thinking, then he must exist. Thinking became proof of his own life.

I read this quote many times, and each time it touches me a little differently. Because thinking is not something small. Thinking is the reason we are all so different from each other, even when we look the same on the outside. Two people can stand in front of the same sunset, and one will just see orange sky, while the other will feel something moving inside their chest, something words can barely explain. The difference is not in the sunset. The difference is in the thinking.

Everybody has different power of thinking, and I believe this power is what actually keeps a person alive on the inside, not just breathing, but truly living. Some people think in numbers, some in pictures, some in music, some in deep quiet feelings they never say out loud. This is not a small gift. This is what makes each person able to live their own life, and also help others live their life too, simply by sharing their own way of seeing things with the world around them.

For me, my thinking comes from words. I am a literary person, someone who grew up loving language, loving stories, loving the small meanings hidden inside simple sentences. Because of this, I don't just hear what people say. I feel what they are truly trying to say underneath their words. A simple "I'm fine" from a tired friend doesn't sound simple to me. I hear the tiredness hiding behind those two small words, the sadness not being said directly, the request for someone to just ask one more time and truly listen.

This is my quality, my way of thinking, different from someone who thinks through numbers or through pictures. And this exact difference is what makes me feel like I truly exist, in my own special way. When I think deeply about words, when I understand meaning others simply walk past without noticing, I feel Descartes' words becoming true inside my own small life. I think, in my own special way, therefore I truly am, in my own special way too.

This is maybe why that old quote still touches people even today, so many years after it was first spoken. It gives us a gentle reminder that existing is not just about breathing air and walking around. Real existing happens when we think, when we feel, when we notice the world with our own eyes and our own heart, not just borrowed from someone else. Every person carries their own kind of thinking, their own special lens to see life through, and this is not something to hide or feel ashamed about. It is something to hold onto gently, and offer to the world quietly, in whatever way feels most natural.

I think in words, in hidden meanings, in feelings tucked behind simple sentences. Somebody else thinks in colors, someone else in silence, someone else in kindness shown through small actions instead of words. All of it is real. All of it is proof, in its own quiet way, that we are here, that we are alive, that we are truly thinking, and therefore, truly are.
