Most of us grow up learning to put others first. We're taught to think about our parents, our friends, our partners, our bosses, almost everyone before we think about ourselves. It sounds like a kind and noble way to live, and in many ways it is. But somewhere along the way, a lot of people forget one simple truth — you cannot keep giving from an empty place forever. If you never take care of yourself, sooner or later you'll have nothing left to give anyone else either.

Giving priority to self doesn't mean becoming selfish or ignoring the people around you. It in simple words means understanding that your own health, peace of mind, and needs matter too, not less than anybody else's. A person who never rests, never says no, and never looks after their own well-being mostly ends up tired (more than often), frustrated, and unwell, even if their intentions were always for the betterment the whole time.

Think about something as simple as a phone battery. If you keep using it without ever charging it, it eventually shuts down completely and becomes useless until it's charged again. People work the same way. You can only keep working, helping, and giving for as long as your own energy does not run out. Taking out some time for yourself, eating properly without worrying, sleeping enough for everyday, and setting healthy boundaries can never be labelled as laziness. It's basic maintenance of the life and self, the same way charging a phone is not a luxury, it's simply necessary. The daily need we need to obtain.

Many people do feel guilty when their choices reflect on themselves over others, even for small things. Saying a clear "no" to an extra task, resting instead of overworking for what is not your cup of tea, or spending a little time alone often gets labelled as selfish behaviour by people around us, for sure, because everyone wants their works to be done first. But there's a big difference between selfishness and self-care. Selfishness ignores other people's needs completely. Self-care simply means you stop ignoring your own.

When you take care of yourself first, you actually become more capable of helping others properly. A tired, stressed, and unwell person cannot support anyone well, no matter how good their heart is. But somebody who does feel rested, mentally clear with thoughts, and physically healthy to be able can show up fully for the individuals who matter to them. In that sense, selecting yourself first isn't against of caring for others. It's actually what makes real care possible in the long run.

Giving priority to self is not about pushing everyone else away. It's about making sure you stay strong enough, healthy enough, and steady enough to keep showing up for your own life and for the people around you. Taking care of yourself first isn't selfish. It's simply the necessity , and it always has been a necessity no matter what.

50 percent i agree, and 50 percent i disagree,
Agree because giving yourself enough of yourself is the first priority everyone should choose!
Disagree, maybe instead of choosing ourselves, there is somebody else, who needs our support more than our own wills!
But all good! Nice 👍
