And I am back again with another topic to share for you all my friends. 😊

3 days to go and November will be in and October will be out.
Have you guys finally saved enough for the coming holidays?
If not, then you have landed to the right thread.

Because here in this very post I will be more than happy to share to you some tips and tricks, budget-friendly Life hacks and DIY’s we all can do at home which can help us save more money for the upcoming holidays.

Some of this life hacks I already tried myself and some I have searched online and decided to share here so you no longer have to spend time searching and searching what best sources to use.

So feel free to read and apply all te best hacks you can do. 😁

First is how we can save more electricity. One of things we deal so much at home is high electric bill.

Top 10 effective ways to cut down electric bill:
  • Switch to LED Bulbs : LED bulbs use up to 80% less energy and last longer than incandescent bulbs, providing savings in both energy and replacement costs. And don’t forget to turn lights off if not in use. This is one of the best and easiest way to save power.
  • Unplug Devices Not in Use : Devices like chargers, TVs, and computers continue to use power even when turned off. Unplugging them or using power strips to cut power when not in use can reduce "phantom" energy usage.
  • Optimize Thermostat Settings : Adjust your thermostat to a slightly warmer temperature in the summer and cooler in the winter. Programmable thermostats can automatically adjust settings to avoid excessive heating or cooling when you're not home.
  • Use Energy-Efficient Appliances : Appliances with an ENERGY STAR rating use less energy than standard models. Though they may cost more initially, they save money over time on energy bills.
  • Seal Windows and Doors : Sealing any drafts with weather stripping or caulking can prevent air leaks, helping your heating and cooling systems work more efficiently.
  • Air-Dry Clothes When Possible : Hanging clothes to dry reduces dryer usage, which can be one of the largest energy consumers in your home.
  • Use Ceiling Fans Wisely : Ceiling fans can make a room feel cooler by circulating air, allowing you to raise the thermostat by a few degrees in the summer. Just remember to turn fans off when you leave the room, as they don’t actually lower room temperature.
  • Lower Water Heater Temperature : Many water heaters are set to 140°F by default, but setting it to 120°F can reduce energy consumption and still provide hot water for most needs.
  • Limit Oven and Stove Use : Use a microwave, toaster oven, or slow cooker for smaller meals. These appliances use less energy than the oven, which also reduces the need for additional cooling.
  • Install a Smart Power Strip : Smart power strips detect when devices are in standby mode and cut off power, helping reduce energy waste for items like TVs, game consoles, and computers.

Do these nice power saving life hacks and be amazed to see awesome result. 😁
(You can buy smart power strips from a variety of retailers, both online and in-store like Home Improvement Stores and Electronics Retailers).

The second most is water bill. Though I am not sure if you guys are also paying for water supply, let me still share this water saving life hacks for the benefit of those who are facing issues when it comes to high water bill.

Here are 10 effective ways to cut down water bill:
  • Fix Leaks Promptly : Even a small leak in a faucet or pipe can waste a lot of water over time. Regularly check for leaks and fix them to avoid unnecessary water waste.
  • Install Low-Flow Shower heads and Faucets : Low-flow fixtures reduce water usage without compromising water pressure, saving water in showers and sinks.
  • Use Dual-Flush or Low-Flow Toilets : Toilets are one of the biggest water users at home. A dual-flush or low-flow toilet uses less water per flush and can save gallons each day.
  • Shorten Showers : Reducing shower time by just a few minutes can save gallons of water. Try setting a timer or switching to an efficient low-flow shower head to reduce water usage.
  • Run Full Loads in Dishwashers and Washing Machines : Only run the dishwasher and washing machine when you have full loads to maximize water efficiency and save on both water and energy bills.
  • Turn Off the Tap While Brushing or Shaving : Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth or shaving can save a surprising amount of water each day.
  • Water Your Lawn and Plants Early or Late : Watering in the early morning or late evening reduces evaporation, allowing plants to absorb more water, so you need to water less frequently.
  • Use a Broom, Not a Hose, for Outdoor Cleaning : Instead of using a hose to clean driveways, patios, or sidewalks, use a broom. This saves water and can be just as effective.
  • Collect and Reuse Rainwater : Install a rain barrel to collect rainwater and use it for watering your garden or lawn, reducing the need for tap water.
  • Insulate Hot Water Pipes : Insulated pipes help hot water reach faucets faster, so you waste less water waiting for it to warm up. This can be a small investment that yields ongoing savings.

Implementing a few of these changes can reduce water usage, lower your water bill, and benefit the environment!

Addition: The best water saving life hacks I do at home is by recycling and reusing the water I have used in laundry. My mom and grandmoms once told me, we can reuse the used water for flushing toilets (the water used for first rinse after soaping the laundry). For the second, third and final rinse, we can use those for outdoor cleaning and watering plants. Mom told me using water that was used in rinsing soaped laundry can help in repelling insects and pests that clings to the plants and sucks it’s nutrients. One more water saving life hack I do is by placing boiled water that has already cooled down inside a water container and keeping it inside the refrigerator so we can drink it later on.

Addition: The best tips and tricks I always practice so I can save money are
  • For purchased products specially those that are consumable like food and liquid supplies, I always check the expiration dates upon purchasing then I always do the first-in-first-out policy. Which means, whatever supplies purchased first, those are the first ones I should consume before using the products that were newly bought.
  • I always add a very small amount of vinegar when cooking rice to make sure it takes longer before the rice spoils. It can usually last 24 hours but make sure as well you heat the rice again before 12 hours is over just to make sure. If ever I got spoiled rice, what I usually do is I boil vinegar in the previously used pot/ rice cooker to eliminate the odor and prevent it from spoiling the next time I cook rice.
  • I also add a very small amount of vinegar into some dishes that has sauce to prevent it from spoiling immediately.
  • For dish washing, I usually buy DIY dish washing liquids so I can save more money since it is cheaper than those dish washing liquids that are sold in stores.
  • For my jewelries, I just boil some aluminum foil/ wrap then add at least half to a spoonful of baking soda in a small saucepan then soak all my silver and Gold jewelries on it for at least 10-15 minutes while the water boiling. This works like a cool magic.
  • For containers, I usually save some big water bottles for future use like using those as containers once I make my DIY dish washing liquids.
  • For toiletries, I simply buy dozens of packed shampoos and hair conditioners instead of those that are on bottle containers since that is way cheaper. I just put all the shampoos together in one clean empty shampoo bottle or container. Same goes for the hair conditioner.

These hacks can make a big difference in reducing household expenses and improving daily life. Try those now and thank me later 😁🤭

One more practical tip I can share that I almost forget but should not miss sharing here is saving rice that is almost spoiled.

If you guys have some rice that is already getting spoiled, do not throw it away just yet. You can still save it. What you just need to do is wash properly to remove the smell and it's soury flavour then you can turn it into either fried rice or porridge. For porridge you can either add some onions and plenty of garlic for rich smell flavour. Ginger to make it a bit spicy a little bit of chillies and some meat. Then boil some eggs and fry or sauté some tofu and wallah! Your meal will be so perfect. This is even perfect when you have a hangover. Hahahaha!
Or, you can add some coconut milk, some chopped korn kernels and a little sugar to make it a little sweeter. These 2 types of porridge is so perfect for rainy cold days. And it's perfect to eat this anytime. 😁

Try these suggestions and enjoy. 😁
