Some of this life hacks I already tried myself and some I have searched online and decided to share here so you no longer have to spend time searching and searching what best sources to use.
So feel free to read and apply all te best hacks you can do.
First is how we can save more electricity. One of things we deal so much at home is high electric bill.
Top 10 effective ways to cut down electric bill:
- Switch to LED Bulbs : LED bulbs use up to 80% less energy and last longer than incandescent bulbs, providing savings in both energy and replacement costs. And don’t forget to turn lights off if not in use. This is one of the best and easiest way to save power.
- Unplug Devices Not in Use : Devices like chargers, TVs, and computers continue to use power even when turned off. Unplugging them or using power strips to cut power when not in use can reduce "phantom" energy usage.
- Optimize Thermostat Settings : Adjust your thermostat to a slightly warmer temperature in the summer and cooler in the winter. Programmable thermostats can automatically adjust settings to avoid excessive heating or cooling when you're not home.
- Use Energy-Efficient Appliances : Appliances with an ENERGY STAR rating use less energy than standard models. Though they may cost more initially, they save money over time on energy bills.
- Seal Windows and Doors : Sealing any drafts with weather stripping or caulking can prevent air leaks, helping your heating and cooling systems work more efficiently.
- Air-Dry Clothes When Possible : Hanging clothes to dry reduces dryer usage, which can be one of the largest energy consumers in your home.
- Use Ceiling Fans Wisely : Ceiling fans can make a room feel cooler by circulating air, allowing you to raise the thermostat by a few degrees in the summer. Just remember to turn fans off when you leave the room, as they don’t actually lower room temperature.
- Lower Water Heater Temperature : Many water heaters are set to 140°F by default, but setting it to 120°F can reduce energy consumption and still provide hot water for most needs.
- Limit Oven and Stove Use : Use a microwave, toaster oven, or slow cooker for smaller meals. These appliances use less energy than the oven, which also reduces the need for additional cooling.
- Install a Smart Power Strip : Smart power strips detect when devices are in standby mode and cut off power, helping reduce energy waste for items like TVs, game consoles, and computers.
Do these nice power saving life hacks and be amazed to see awesome result.
(You can buy smart power strips from a variety of retailers, both online and in-store like Home Improvement Stores and Electronics Retailers).
The second most is water bill. Though I am not sure if you guys are also paying for water supply, let me still share this water saving life hacks for the benefit of those who are facing issues when it comes to high water bill.
Here are 10 effective ways to cut down water bill:
- Fix Leaks Promptly : Even a small leak in a faucet or pipe can waste a lot of water over time. Regularly check for leaks and fix them to avoid unnecessary water waste.
- Install Low-Flow Shower heads and Faucets : Low-flow fixtures reduce water usage without compromising water pressure, saving water in showers and sinks.
- Use Dual-Flush or Low-Flow Toilets : Toilets are one of the biggest water users at home. A dual-flush or low-flow toilet uses less water per flush and can save gallons each day.
- Shorten Showers : Reducing shower time by just a few minutes can save gallons of water. Try setting a timer or switching to an efficient low-flow shower head to reduce water usage.
- Run Full Loads in Dishwashers and Washing Machines : Only run the dishwasher and washing machine when you have full loads to maximize water efficiency and save on both water and energy bills.
- Turn Off the Tap While Brushing or Shaving : Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth or shaving can save a surprising amount of water each day.
- Water Your Lawn and Plants Early or Late : Watering in the early morning or late evening reduces evaporation, allowing plants to absorb more water, so you need to water less frequently.
- Use a Broom, Not a Hose, for Outdoor Cleaning : Instead of using a hose to clean driveways, patios, or sidewalks, use a broom. This saves water and can be just as effective.
- Collect and Reuse Rainwater : Install a rain barrel to collect rainwater and use it for watering your garden or lawn, reducing the need for tap water.
- Insulate Hot Water Pipes : Insulated pipes help hot water reach faucets faster, so you waste less water waiting for it to warm up. This can be a small investment that yields ongoing savings.
Implementing a few of these changes can reduce water usage, lower your water bill, and benefit the environment!
Addition: The best water saving life hacks I do at home is by recycling and reusing the water I have used in laundry. My mom and grandmoms once told me, we can reuse the used water for flushing toilets (the water used for first rinse after soaping the laundry). For the second, third and final rinse, we can use those for outdoor cleaning and watering plants. Mom told me using water that was used in rinsing soaped laundry can help in repelling insects and pests that clings to the plants and sucks it’s nutrients. One more water saving life hack I do is by placing boiled water that has already cooled down inside a water container and keeping it inside the refrigerator so we can drink it later on.
