Día de los Muertos is a joyful celebration honoring the temporary return of the dead. Rooted in ancient Aztec and Maya traditions and later blended with Catholic All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day, it is observed mainly on November 1st and 2nd. Families build ofrendas with cempasúchil marigolds, candles, photos, favorite foods, pan de muerto, and sugar skulls to welcome the spirits home. Recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008, it affirms the bond between the living and the dead.
