World Tuberculosis Day is observed annually on March 24th to raise awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis (TB) and efforts to eliminate the disease. It commemorates the date in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium that causes TB. The day serves to educate the public about the devastating health, social, and economic consequences of TB and to advocate for increased efforts to eradicate the disease.
On this day there is an opportunity to educate the public about the impact of TB around the world, as well as the steps that can be taken to prevent and control the disease. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of continued research and investment in the fight against TB.
