Teasing someone about their teeth, ears, face, hair, body, or any other part of their appearance may seem like a small joke to the person who says it, but it can be very painful for the person who hears it. What one person calls “just a joke” can become a memory that stays with someone for years.

People are born with different features. Some people have straight teeth, while others may have teeth that are crowded or positioned differently. Some have bigger ears, different face shapes, curly hair, or other features that make them unique. Many of these things are influenced by genetics, and nobody chooses the way they are born.

When someone is repeatedly teased about a physical feature, they may start feeling embarrassed or insecure. They might stop smiling, avoid photographs, speak less, or constantly worry about how other people see them. The person doing the teasing may forget the joke after a few minutes, but the person being teased may remember it for a very long time.

Instead of making fun of someone's appearance, we should learn to respect differences. If someone has a feature they are unhappy with, they may choose to change or treat it someday, but they should do it because they want to feel comfortable and confident—not because someone bullied them into it.

Words have power. A kind word can make someone's day, while a cruel joke can damage someone's confidence. We should never judge a person's worth by their teeth, ears, face, hair, body, clothes, or money.

The Biggest Lesson

NEVER MAKE SOMEONE FEEL ASHAMED OF THE FACE OR BODY THEY WERE BORN WITH.

YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES THEY MAY HAVE CRIED, HID THEIR SMILE, AVOIDED PHOTOS, OR FELT BAD ABOUT THEMSELVES BECAUSE OF YOUR “JOKE.”

BE KIND. BE RESPECTFUL. PEOPLE ARE NOT THEIR FEATURES.

A PERSON'S VALUE IS MUCH BIGGER THAN THEIR APPEARANCE.
