Hi hi you all my Windice friends.
How are you all?
Everyone excited for the upcoming long holidays?
Me, yes. Super yes. Haha
30 days left and it's Christmas day.
How are you all preparing for the upcoming Christmas and New Year?
If you guys have not started planning yet and decorating, then it's the time of the year to start planning ahead and putting on your Christmas decorations because today, the world is celebrating National Start a Secret Santa day. So start thinking of nice gifts to give this end month of the year and start thinking of the people you would like to give your gifts to. Take note though, these gifts don't have to be too expensive. Don't need to be fancy. As a matter of fact, you can give gift to anyone through a letter, a simple food but was made from love, or through a helping hand.
According to an information I have read online, this event, Secret Santa, the beloved game of giving anonymous gifts, originated around 1741 from the Scandinavian tradition of Juklapp or Christmas knocking", where presents were thrown inside an open door, followed by a quick getaway by the gift-giver. People would usually knock on someone's door then toss a gift inside and run away as fast as possible to stay anonymous.
Then around 1979, modern American Secret Santa tradition began led by the Kansas City philanthropist Larry Dean Stewart. He had been anonymously gifting money to strangers in need, often in the form of $20, $50, or $100 bills. His selfless act of generosity laid the foundation for today's Secret Santa. Before his passing, he established the Society of Secret Santas, an organization dedicated to spreading anonymous gift-giving worldwide and encouraging generosity without expectation of recognition.
The next evolution of Secret Santa occurred around December 2000 when Elfster's founder, Peter Imburg saw the challenges of organizing a family gift exchange so he thought of simplifying this process and launched Elfster around 2004, a free online website which allows people to easily send invitations, draw names, track Wishlists, and organize their Secret Santa Exchanges. The website now connects over 33 million users across more than 50 countries enabling seamless participation in Secret Santa worldwide. Then by 2024, the website officially declared NOVEMBER 25 as National Start a Secret Santa Day to encourage people in kicking off their holiday gift exchanges as early as possible.
Here is one cute + educational story about Secret Santa Day.
Once upon a time in the quaint town of Everjoy, nestled in a valley that sparkled with snow during the holidays, a little girl named Clara wondered what made the season so magical. Every year, the streets lit up with colorful lights, and the townsfolk bustled about with smiles and laughter. But one year, the joy seemed dimmer—people were busier, smiles rarer, and the holiday spirit harder to find.
Clara’s teacher, Mrs. Bell, noticed this too. So, one chilly December morning, she announced a special project: National Start a Secret Santa Day. Every student was given a name from their class to secretly gift something thoughtful. The catch? The gifts didn’t have to cost money—they could be a kind note, a handmade card, or even a chore done in secret. The goal was to spread joy in unexpected ways.
Clara was thrilled but a little nervous. She had drawn Timmy’s name, a quiet boy who sat at the back of the class. She didn’t know him well, but she remembered he loved drawing. That evening, Clara worked on a handmade sketchbook, decorating the cover with stars and a heartfelt note: "For the artist in you—keep creating magic."
Over the next few days, the classroom buzzed with excitement. Little surprises appeared in desks, lockers, and lunchboxes. Clara found a tiny bookmark with her favorite quote tucked into her notebook. Each gift was anonymous, but every smile brought the class closer together.
When Timmy opened his sketchbook, his face lit up brighter than the town's Christmas tree. He stood in front of the class and, for the first time, spoke confidently: “Whoever gave this to me, thank you. This is the best gift I’ve ever received.”
Soon, the idea spread beyond the classroom. The entire town joined in, starting their own Secret Santa exchanges. Neighbors shoveled each other’s driveways, coffee shop owners left free drinks for strangers, and bakers delivered surprise cookies to doorsteps. No one knew who was behind the acts of kindness, but it didn’t matter. What mattered was the warmth that spread
throughout Everjoy—a warmth money could never buy.
From that day on, National Start a Secret Santa Day became an annual tradition in Everjoy. It wasn’t just about gifts—it was about reminding everyone that the smallest acts of kindness could create the biggest waves of happiness. And for Clara, who had wondered what made the season magical, the answer became clear: the magic wasn’t in the lights or the decorations—it was in the joy of giving.
As the town’s motto now says, "A little secret kindness makes the world brighter for everyone."
The lesson for this story is, It doesnt really matter if the gift you have to give is big or small. Cheap or expensive, material or not. As long as it comes from the bottom of your heart and as long as it's sincere and as long as you are able to bring joy to someone's life. There is no need to waste a lot of money just to make someone happy.
I sincerely hope you all will be very happy and abundant this coming Christmas.
Advance Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
