How are you all preparing for the upcoming Christmas and New Year?
If you guys have not started planning yet and decorating, then it's the time of the year to start planning ahead and putting on your Christmas decorations because today, the world is celebrating National Start a Secret Santa day. So start thinking of nice gifts to give this end month of the year and start thinking of the people you would like to give your gifts to. Take note though, these gifts don't have to be too expensive. Don't need to be fancy. As a matter of fact, you can give gift to anyone through a letter, a simple food but was made from love, or through a helping hand.
According to an information I have read online, this event, Secret Santa, the beloved game of giving anonymous gifts, originated around 1741 from the Scandinavian tradition of Juklapp or Christmas knocking", where presents were thrown inside an open door, followed by a quick getaway by the gift-giver. People would usually knock on someone's door then toss a gift inside and run away as fast as possible to stay anonymous.
Then around 1979, modern American Secret Santa tradition began led by the Kansas City philanthropist Larry Dean Stewart. He had been anonymously gifting money to strangers in need, often in the form of $20, $50, or $100 bills. His selfless act of generosity laid the foundation for today's Secret Santa. Before his passing, he established the Society of Secret Santas, an organization dedicated to spreading anonymous gift-giving worldwide and encouraging generosity without expectation of recognition.
The next evolution of Secret Santa occurred around December 2000 when Elfster's founder, Peter Imburg saw the challenges of organizing a family gift exchange so he thought of simplifying this process and launched Elfster around 2004, a free online website which allows people to easily send invitations, draw names, track Wishlists, and organize their Secret Santa Exchanges. The website now connects over 33 million users across more than 50 countries enabling seamless participation in Secret Santa worldwide. Then by 2024, the website officially declared NOVEMBER 25 as National Start a Secret Santa Day to encourage people in kicking off their holiday gift exchanges as early as possible.

The lesson for this story is, It doesnt really matter if the gift you have to give is big or small. Cheap or expensive, material or not. As long as it comes from the bottom of your heart and as long as it's sincere and as long as you are able to bring joy to someone's life. There is no need to waste a lot of money just to make someone happy.
