I'm a big fan of fun facts, I was reading a bit about that and I brought you the ones that really surprised me about casinos!
1) THE ORIGIN OF THE WORD CASINO
The term "casino" comes from Italian and means "casa" or "house/meeting place." Originally, casinos were small villas or country houses used for the entertainment of the nobility and social elite in Italy during the 18th and 19th centuries. In those times, casinos were places where recreational activities such as music, dances, banquets, and games of chance took place.
2) ROULETTE ORIGINATED AS A PHYSICS EXPERIMENT.
Blaise Pascal, mathematician, philosopher, theologian, writer, and also a fan of gambling, tried to develop a perpetual motion machine, a machine that, in theory, could continue to work for all eternity. This experiment never worked, but he did discover that his invention would have other uses: those of the game. Pascal's roulette was soon adopted by his closest friends, then by the world's casinos, and, finally, today we would find it on all mobile phones or computers with access to the world's online casinos
3) THE 0 OF THE ROULETTE WAS ADDED TO GET ECONOMIC BENEFITS.
The 0 was added by the Blanc brothers to be able to get economic benefits from the game. Before 0, Roulette was a game to be enjoyed among friends in which the owner of Roulette did not get any money. The bet was distributed. With 0 things change, since it is neither odd, nor even, nor black, nor red, nor is it part of any of the three columns... which implies that the times it does not fall on 0 the money goes to the casino, since in addition the prize in the case of betting on a number and winning is 35 times the bet, and there are 37 boxes.
4) LAS VEGAS IS SO BRIGHT THAT IT CAN BE SEEN FROM SPACE.
The Las Vegas Strip is famous for its impressive neon signs and bright lights. During the night, hotels and casinos light up the sky with colorful neon signs, giant billboards, and LED screens displaying advertisements and promotions. Such is the light power that can be seen from outer space.
5) THE BIGGEST JACKPOT.
One of the largest prizes ever recorded for a slot machine was $39 million in Las Vegas, Nevada, specifically at the Excalibur Hotel Casino in 2003. It is worth mentioning that the odds of someone getting that jackpot were 1 to 16.7 million. That's called luck!
6) THE ORIGIN OF THE JACKPOT IS IN POKER
The term “jackpot” was born in XIX poker. Players put money into a pot to encourage play, referring to an accumulated amount and today it is also used to refer to big prizes.
7) THIS IS LOVE FOR YOUR TEAM.
In 2017, an anonymous player bet $8 million on the Eagles poker football team in Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots. The Eagles won, and the lucky one walked away with $18.8 million, setting a sports betting record.
8) LAS VEGAS IS NOT THE PLACE IN THE WORLD WITH MORE CASINOS.
Although it is one of the cities with the most gambling establishments, there is another city in China that has many more. This is Macau, considered the gaming capital of the world, with revenues of $45 billion since 2016.
9) THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA IS FUNDED WITH IN-GAME MONEY.
Money from lotteries and other games of chance has been used to finance many public construction projects, including the construction of the Great Wall of China.
10) A GAMBLER INVENTED THE SANDWICH
It is rumored that John Montagu, Earl of Sandwich, England, was an inveterate gambler. In order not to dirty his hands or his cards while playing, he popularized the option of introducing food between two slices of bread. For this reason, these types of dishes are called sandwiches.
11) GIANT SLOTS
There are many giant slot machines, including the one you see in the photo located at Balley's Casino. Curiosity? Countless people have broken their arm pulling the lever.
12) MACAO HAS THE LARGEST CASINO IN THE WORLD
Apart from being the largest casino city in the world, Macao also has Venetian Macao, the seventh-largest building and the largest casino in the world. This colossal architecture covers around 10,500,000 square feet!
13) AND LONDON HAS THE SMALLEST CASINO
You can find the smallest casino in London, and it doesn't even have an address! Grosvenor Casino London has a mobile casino in a taxi. The casino in the back of a taxi is equipped with a television with sports programs, a bar, a card table, and a dealer. The taxi allows the passenger to go anywhere by making a charitable donation or going to the casino for free.
Surely breaking an arm playing slots is too true? What was the one that caught your attention the most? Do you have anything else to add?
Thanks for reading me!
