So, how do we stay safe? Here are the ultimate
DO'S everyone needs to know:- DO: Keep things bright! Maximize natural light, keep your home well-lit, open windows, and fix squeaky doors. Ghosts thrive in dark, cluttered, gloomy corners.
- DO: Wear bright colors. Swap out the goth/all-black aesthetic for a few weeks. Dark clothing makes you blend in with the shadows—and the spirits. Stick to warm, vibrant tones.
- DO: Leave out the snacks. Culturally, communities burn joss paper and leave food offerings (rice, fruit, wine) outside to appease the "Good Brothers" so they stay happy and leave you alone.
- DO: Watch where you step. If you see outdoor food offerings or burnt ashes on the sidewalk, do not step on, kick, or mock them. Apologize immediately if you accidentally disturb one.
On a serious note
Ghosts actually roam around anytime, any day, any month, not just during ghost month. And this event maybe a folklore or myth to some who don't believe about ghost month, but... a little extra caution, respect, and mindfulness never hurt anyone.
Bottom line:
Respect the culture, mind your business, don't pick up random money or items off the street (it belongs to them!), and maybe skip the late-night swimming pools. Stay safe, stay bright, and remember: if you feel a chill down your spine, just keep walking!
