In the city's marketplace, Rafiq owned a cloth shop. He was a virtuous and honest merchant.

After finishing his morning prayers and supplications, he would open his shop; as soon as the call for the afternoon prayer sounded, he would close his shop and head to the mosque.

Allah Almighty had granted great blessings to his business, and Rafiq was counted among the wealthy.

Rafiq possessed a pouch in which he kept one thousand dinars (gold coins). Once, he had to travel to another country for business.

He went to his close friend, Aamir, with his pouch and said: "Brother Aamir! I am going abroad for some time and am leaving an entrustment (amanah) with you. I hope you will keep it safe; I will collect it from you upon my return."

Saying this, Rafiq handed the pouch full of a thousand gold dinars over to Aamir. Aamir kept the pouch safely with him.
Rafiq set off on his journey. Days turned into years, and Rafiq remained away for several years.

Eventually, Satan whispered an evil thought into Aamir’s heart. He thought, "Why don't I take the dinars (gold coins) out of this pouch and replace them with dirhams (silver coins)? If Rafiq asks when he returns, I will lie and say that this is exactly what he gave me, and that I never even opened the pouch."

Aamir did exactly that. He removed the gold dinars and replaced them with silver dirhams.

After some time, Rafiq returned. He went to Aamir’s house, and Aamir greeted him warmly, handing over the pouch full of coins.

When Rafiq returned home and opened the pouch, he was shocked to find that instead of gold dinars, it was filled with silver dirhams. Distraught, he rushed back to Aamir and explained the situation.

Aamir pretended to be furious and said: "First, I did you a favor by guarding your wealth, and now you accuse me of theft!"
Poor Rafiq returned home, offered two units of voluntary prayer, and supplicated to GOD: "O GOD! I pay the Zakat on my wealth every year, and You protect the wealth for which Zakat has been paid. Protect my property and return it to me."
Then, taking Allah's name, he went to the court and narrated the entire incident to the Judge (Qazi).

The Judge summoned Aamir and asked: "How many years ago did Rafiq leave this entrustment with you?"
Aamir replied: "Five years ago."
The Judge then opened the pouch, took out the coins, and said to Aamir: "You claim Rafiq gave you these coins five years ago, yet the minting date inscribed on these coins is from only two years ago. This means you are lying. Now, return Rafiq's wealth immediately and prepare for your punishment."
Aamir bowed his head in shame, confessed to his crime, and returned Rafiq's original wealth to him.
