The concept of Halloween is full of fascinating ideas. Halloween story

This traditional and very old celebration actually has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival called ( Samhain ). Celts lived two thousand years ago in the area that today includes Ireland, England and part of France, and according to their beliefs, they celebrated the first day of November every year as the harvest day and the end of summer. They believed that this night is the border between the world of the living and the dead and the beginning of autumn and moving towards a cold winter.

Because these Europeans believed that the spirits return to the earth, people believed that if they left their homes on Halloween, they would surely encounter spirits, so when leaving the house after sunset used masks and disguises so that the spirits of the dead would confuse them with other spirits. Therefore, it can be said that the tradition of wearing strange costumes on Halloween night is rooted in Celtic beliefs, because they were people who, according to their beliefs, were afraid of the dark and the long winter nights were scary for them.

Establishing this tradition for the Celts made sense in lighting fires and burning crops and animals as sacrifices for the gods. At the end of the ceremony, they usually re-lit the fire of the furnaces that they had extinguished the night before the ceremony, so that, in their belief, this fire will protect them until the end of the year and in the cold of winter. Eventually, over time, this ancient tradition became a celebration full of color, light and joy, and it was called Halloween.

How did Halloween come to America?

The celebration of Halloween in states like New England was very limited due to the strict Protestant system prevailing there, but in the southern states of America like Maryland, this celebration was more common. On the other hand, with the passage of time, the beliefs and customs of the Europeans who immigrated to America and the native Indians were somehow combined and the result was a new version of the Halloween celebration that is celebrated all over the world today.

In the 18th century, part of the Halloween celebration was spent telling scary stories and adventures about ghosts and demons, and another part was spent dancing and stomping.

In the meantime, sometimes the American people, relying on the old traditions of the Europeans, wearing strange and different clothes, went from house to house and asked for food or money, a tradition that is called "trick or treating".

But over time, Halloween became a sweet and lovely holiday even for children and teenagers to celebrate this fall night with their families by joking and playing and wearing strange clothes, and this is how at the beginning of the 20th century, it was no longer superstitious. And the old beliefs did not remain in this celebration.

In fact, since delicious food is always a guest of all parties, everywhere in the world for preparing Halloween, food and sweets and chocolate are an inseparable part of this celebration.
