A Chilean co-produced film set in Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, at the end of the 19th century. Gálvez's debut feature tells the story of the genocide of the Ona people, driven by an Asturian sheep-rancher from Punta Arenas (a southern Chilean city) and carried out by an English foot soldier. Los Colonos (The Settlers) venture into a kind of Latin Patagonian Western, seeking an authorial distance from the horror depicted in the film.

The cinematography is magnificent, emphasizing the vast Fuegian landscapes in stark contrast to the brutality of the indigenous massacre. The Chilean film is structured into several sections, each titled according to a character or situation, giving it a didactic quality. The final part brings us closer to a historical truth; however, the concluding metaphor feels somewhat obvious, redundant, and lacking in deeper reflection.
