A strange mix of political drama (IRA) and musical comedy with Almodóvar-like touches. With an excellent Cillian Murphy in the lead role, Breakfast on Pluto, a British film, unfolds a fluid narrative with a slightly naïve fairy-tale aura. The movie is divided into 36 small episodes, structured like a literary amusement, each dominated by a famous musical hit from the seventies.
The central theme of Jordan's work is the search for identity through the scrutiny of the renegade mother. On this journey, the protagonist fantasizes, deludes, daydreams, and wanders, trying to exorcize their destiny, becoming an extravagant and eccentric character who never loses their quintessentially transvestite essence. Ultimately, Breakfast on Pluto is a charming, poetic, hybrid, musical, colorful, and ironic film, yet with a halo of pure tragedy that reminds us of the old William (Shakespeare) with a seventies Irish touch.
